"Brasil es el tercer país que, entre 2011 y 2021, tuvo uno de los mayores descensos en los indicadores de libertad de expresión, según el Global Expression Report (GxR), informe anual de Artículo 19 Brasil, organización no gubernamental para la defensa y promoción del derecho a la libertad de expresión y el acceso a la información en todo el mundo, publicado este jueves. Sólo por detrás de Hong Kong y Afganistán, el país tuvo una reducción de 38 puntos en la escala del ranking mundial de libertad de expresión que elabora anualmente la institución, que recoge información de 161 países en 25 indicadores.
Los datos del documento muestran que de 2015 a 2021, el país cayó 58 posiciones en el ranking global de libertad de expresión, alcanzando los 50 puntos y el puesto 89, su peor registro desde que comenzó la encuesta en 2010. 'Hemos pasado de ser una nación considerada abierta a restringida en muy poco tiempo. Este dato es uno de los más impactantes de todo el mundo, no sólo por la caída en sí misma, sino por haberse producido de forma más acentuada bajo el liderazgo de un presidente que fue elegido, y que debería cuidar la democracia y la libertad de expresión, cosa que no ocurre, como se muestra en el Informe', dijo Denise Dora, directora ejecutiva de Artículo 19 Brasil. 'En América Latina, sólo estamos por detrás de Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Colombia y El Salvador', añadió".
